About Dr. Harold Davis:
Dr. Harold D. Davis is the Executive Director of TALKS Mentoring Program in Champaign, Illinois. He is the author of the books, TALKS My Father Never Had with Me and Can I Call You Soldier? and was previously the Assistant Pastor at Canaan Baptist Church in Champaign, IL.
Davis contributes his successful adulthood to his father, Harold Cratt. “My father was an incredible man who worked three jobs and poured his life into me." Davis’ father imparted in him a strong work ethic, passing down distinct morals and a determination to model himself as a good man for not only his family, but, also society.
Putting his principles to work, Davis founded the TALKS Mentoring Program in 1995, which provided male mentors to young boys in various Chicago schools.
Davis charges Black males to be a source of empowerment to their communities, employing the term “Soldier,” to describe men who are committed to making a difference.
Davis candidly shares stories of his father, as well as experiences with his own son to illustrate his idea that positive mentorship is the key to becoming a successful Black male in America.
