How to manage stress so that you can manage your time
By Cheryl R. Carter
Stress is the greatest thief of time. One way we get stressed is not being in agreement.
In the bible, Amos 3; 3 says can two walk together unless they are in agreement. At times, we are not even in agreement with ourselves. This causes much stress.
Stress occurs when the things we do, our activities do not line up with our values. This is a very basic principle yet sometimes we Christians miss this obvious principle because we think we know our values.
Our values are simply those things most important to us. The issue is most times we are not aware of when our values and activities conflict. For instance, I really value my children but if I am rushed to meet a deadline, I used to yell at them.
I like to meet deadlines and I like the sense of accomplishment it brings me. I realized I had to repent for valuing my appearance of perceived excellence over relationship with my children. Now I rarely yell at my children when I am working on a deadline because I have come to understand my eternal relationship with them is more important than temporal success.
There is only one thing we will take into glory with us and that is our relationships with each other. Do not be robbed of the eternal joy of those relationships by stressing over insignificant things.
May the LORD help us all of us today to value one another over our petty squabbles, deadlines and perceptions.
